Plan to improve safety at Canberra’s waterways

Royal Lifesaving ACT wants to trial new technology to improve safety at Canberra’s popular swimming areas.

The trial would see the installation of “river rescue hubs” at places like the lower Cotter.

The stations would contain life vests, voice instructions and an emergency mobile phone connection to responders.

A trial of two rescue stations would cost around 250 thousand dollars, provided a company could assist with the phone infrastructure.
