Applications are now open for ACT Policing’s Entry Level Recruit Program with training commencing in 2024.
As an ACT police officer, you can make a positive difference to the lives of the people in your community, with each day presenting new opportunities to make an impact.
ACT Policing is now inviting applications from people who are interested in making a positive contribution to society, within a rewarding, stimulating and challenging role.
As a police recruit joining ACT Policing, you will be entitled to:
- More than $37,000 for 24 weeks of training (inclusive of 15.4% superannuation)
- All meals and accommodation paid for while at the AFP College
- Relocation assistance provided if you are moving from interstate
- All uniforms provided
- A salary package of more than $95,000 when you graduate (inclusive of 15.4% superannuation, including during all periods of maternity leave)
- 6 weeks of paid annual leave per year
- 4 mandatory rest days per year
- 18 days of paid personal leave per year
- 16 weeks of paid maternity leave after 12 months of service for each pregnancy, and an extra 36 weeks of maternity leave without pay
- Significant health and welfare support through the AFP’s SHIELD program
- Access personal training as part of your training at the college, as well as access to the AFP gyms throughout your career
- Upon completion of your training, receive a Diploma qualification with no HECS/HELP debt accumulated
Police recruits are required to undertake 24 weeks of training at the AFP College in Canberra.
Recruits have the option to live at the college throughout the duration of the training at no extra cost. For local Canberrans, you will have the option to live at the college or continue to live at home and commute to the college for training each day.

Detective Sergeant Rachel Batterham started as a recruit with ACT Policing in March 2003, graduating in August 2003 and commenced with Tuggeranong General Duties.
Detective Sergeant Batterham has worked in a variety of areas across the span of her career, including Criminal Investigations, Child Protection Operations and the National Anti-Gangs Squad.
Starting a family 13 years into her career, Detective Sergeant Batterham said she understood the concerns people may have around commencing in a career with ACT Policing.
“It is easy to feel worried about what you will and won’t be able to manage as a police officer and a person,” Detective Sergeant Batterham said.
“I expected that starting a family 13 years into my career wouldn’t work and I would fail at both tasks, but instead each role reinforced the reason for the other.
“If you want to find a way to help people, we can find a way for you to do it.”
