Qantas is moving to phase out some of its older propeller aircraft on flights between Canberra and Sydney.
The Q-200 and Q-300 series aircraft are being replaced.
They’re smaller and louder, as QantasLink transitions over to the Q-400 series which in some cases can carry twice the number of passengers than the earlier model.
Qantas plans to get another 14 of the Q-400’s – but since they’re not manufactured anymore, they’ll be sought through other airlines to bring them to Australia.
It’s a lengthy process, but Qantas boss Vanessa Hudson says conformity to one type of plane will ensure an on-going reliable air service over the coming decade.
The carrier uses a mixed fleet of Q-200 Q-300 and Q-400 aircraft on its Canberra Services with Sydney.
