Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart has poured cold water on reports that star forward Hudson Young will choose Papua new Guinea over Canberra.

The Blues and Raiders superstar has been linked with a move to the PNG Chiefs in 2028, as they look to assemble a blockbuster lineup to challenge for an NRL Premiership in their debut season.

Current signings include League’s record try scorer Alex Johnston, Rugby Union defector Zac Lomax, Blues Hooker Connor Watson, and Penrith Premiership pair Brian To’o and Jerome Luai. England International Matty Lees has also signed from Super League club St Helens.

Hudson Young is the latest star to be linked with a move to the NRL’s 19th team, however, there are reports Young has been offered a three-year multimillion-dollar deal to stay in the Capital.

Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart has told Capital Radio Network that he expects Young to remain at the Raiders, and is no chance for signing for another Australian club.

“We won’t get beaten by any other club, he won’t play for any other club” Stuart said.

“He’ll be playing for the Raiders”

But the veteran coach say Young would be silly not to entertain a deal from the Chiefs, who can exclusively offer tax free contracts.

“Don [Furner] and I sat down with Hudson yesterday and we told him that you’d be silly not to look at it in regards to what type of money is being offered and what type of facilities are gonna be there to live in – if they come knocking.”

“It is a business, but I’d like to have my bottom dollar on that he will be a Raider” Stuart finished.

Hudson Young is currently recovering from an Achilles injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season, and is free to speak with rival clubs from November first.
