The Key’s matchstick grasshopper, a species found in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, was recently spotted at Namadgi National Park for only the second time on record.
This rare sighting was reported by the Brindabella Venturer Unit of Scouts ACT, who were collecting monthly water samples at Hospital Creek, and was later confirmed by the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The Key’s matchstick grasshopper is considered endangered due to its limited suitable habitats.
