Canberra drivers yet to replace dangerous Takata airbags can expect to have their car registration suspended or cancelled from next month.

More than 71,000 airbags have been replaced in the ACT since the compulsory recall was announced in 2018.

However, there are still more than 1,200 vehicles with the dangerous airbags potentially driving around Canberra –including 354 of the most critical types.

Access Canberra will begin the process of suspending and cancelling registrations from April 6.
