A new report from the Grattan Institute has revealed that just 2 per cent of rental homes in the ACT are affordable for retirees.
That marks the lowest availability of any Capital City in Australia, however the number of houses affordable becomes 7 per cent if there was a boost to Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
Researcher Matthew Bowes says at the current rate of the pension and rate assistance most are only left with 300 dollars a week.
