Nearly 50 Canberrans are preparing for life without a job when local bread factory BUTTERCUPS BAKERIES closes its Fyshwick doors, in a move to Sydney.
The closure was a shock to staff when it was announced earlier this month by national food giant GOODMAN FIELDER.
Insiders say, production has gone down over the years – most likely because of increased rivals.
The company, in a statement, says it’s consulting with staff at the Canberra bakery, about operational changes.. It’s due to close by the end of the month.
However, the Fyshwick location will maintain a supply chain and distribution facility.
As part of the redundancy, redundant staff will receive 3 weeks of pay, for each year of service.
