Bill Shorten leaves politics today for another job in Canberra, days earlier than his expected February departure.
The outgoing NDIS minister and former prime ministerial hopeful in September announced his retirement from politics after 17 years in parliament.
He had been expected to remain in cabinet until his retirement from politics next month, – when he will become the vice chancellor of the University of Canberra.
He made the early departure announcement last week.
Federal Parliament’s due to resume in about a fortnight, with the Prime Minister calling a general election, by May this year.
