Socceroos book their World Cup ticket

Australia has stunned Peru to clinch a place in a fifth-straight World Cup with a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout in Qatar.

Hero goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne was brought off the bench just before the end of extra-time.

Redmayne went on to seal victory by saving the final goal in the penalty shoot out, handing Australia the win.

Coach Graham Arnold said it was a massive effort.

β€œI believe this is one of the greatest achievements ever to qualify for this World Cup the way we have had to go through things,” said Arnold.

β€œ20 World Cup Qualifiers, and we played 16 away from home.

β€œIt has been tough, but we did it.
