Australia has stunned Peru to clinch a place in a fifth-straight World Cup with a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout in Qatar.

Hero goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne was brought off the bench just before the end of extra-time.

Redmayne went on to seal victory by saving the final goal in the penalty shoot out, handing Australia the win.

Coach Graham Arnold said it was a massive effort.

“I believe this is one of the greatest achievements ever to qualify for this World Cup the way we have had to go through things,” said Arnold.

“20 World Cup Qualifiers, and we played 16 away from home.

“It has been tough, but we did it.
