Tender Opens For Whitlam Shopping Precinct

The ACT Government has announced it’s preferred plans for the future Whitlam shops site, which includes a mixed precinct with over 200 apartments.

The precinct will be across six blocks, and require the successful developer to show they can raise $150 million to support the development.

Molonglo Valley Community Forum Convenor Ryan Hemsley says they don’t want to see a similar result to what has taken place in Coombs.

“Ultimately it will be on what can be delivered on the site, we don’t want it to sit vacant like what we have seen in Coombs,” Hemsley said.

“We want to have a shopping centre in the form of a supermarket, and we want to see beyond that what can be delivered, and that’s what we’re looking forward to.”
