Almost 18 months after breaking ground, the roads of Canberra’s newest suburb Whitlam have been officially opened to the public.

The powerful opening ceremony was designed to to recreate Gough Whitlam’s famous gesture of pouring soil into the hands of Gurindji elder Vincent Lingiari in 1975 which signified the transfer of land.

2000 Canberrans are set to call the suburb home.
