A container resembling a treasure chest has been discovered in Lake Burley Griffin.

Discovered by fishermen near the Black Mountain peninsula in the early hours, the chest appeared to have been in the water for sometime.

Local authorities have taken the chest for further examination, currently the contents are unknown.

The discovery has drawn crowds to the site, some with metal detectors hoping to find their own treasure.

They most likely won’t find any as this is an April Fools joke.
