The calls come after the Canberra Institute of Technology lost its latest CEO Dr Margot McNeill, after it was revealed that she failed to disclose an investigation into her previous role at TAFE New South Wales.

The University isn’t the only party to welcome the idea, with federal politicians also saying it could work.

Federal Member for Bean David Smith has come out in support for calls to merge the University of Canberra with the Canberra Institute of Technology.

Other politicians who have welcomed the plan include Federal Education Minister Jason Clare, Independent ACT Senator David Pocock, and Labor Senator Katy Gallagher.

CIT has been the centre of multiple controversies recently, including the resignation of CEO Dr Margot McNeill and integrity commission findings of serious corrupt conduct with institute officials.
