A new amended regulation now gives our local firefighters backing when it comes to cancer, following Senator David Pocock’s negotiations with the Federal Government on Industrial Relations reform.
It sees eight new cancers covered under firefighters worker’s compensation, which were initially only going to be for the ACT, but will be expanded nationally.
Firefighters are exposed yearly to thousands of toxins from plastics, electronics and fabrics and, with recent studies showing changes to a firefighters DNA after three years on the job.
