The Mayor of Yass Valley has raised concerns about a proposal to decriminalise illicit drugs in the ACT.

A draft bill from Labor backbencher Michael Pettersson will be introduced to the Legislative Assembly next year – aiming to decriminalise small amounts of drugs like heroin, ice and MDMA.

Concerns are now being raised over the impact the bill would have on regions outside of Canberra.

Mayor of Yass Valley, Rowena Abbey, says she’s worried about the possible flow on effects to surrounding regions.
