108 Year Old Gun Discovered

Share:

A World War I era pistol was surrendered to police members at Woden Police Station earlier this week.

On Wednesday, 8 February 2023, an elderly man attended the station to voluntary surrender the firearm, which is estimated to be 108 years old.

Police will arrange for the firearm to be assessed for historical value or disposed of safely.

ACT Policing is taking part in a permanent National Firearms Amnesty, to remove unwanted, unregistered, or illicit, firearms from the community.

People who have an unregistered firearm or firearm-related items can surrender them to police without penalty, for registration, sale or destruction.

Members of the public can hand firearms in to the ACT Firearms Registry at 86 Vicars Street Mitchell. Please visit the Firearms page for more information and how to make an appointment.

If you are unable to bring a firearm in to police yourself, please contact the ACT Firearms Registry (02 5126 9076) to organise collection.
