A.C.T. Drug Laws Set To Go Through

The Coalition has failed in its bid to overturn the ACT’s drug decriminalisation bill in the Senate.

The Greens along with Senators David Pocock, Jacqui Lambie and Tammy Tyrrell, voted with the federal government to vote down the bill, failing 27-34.

Western Australian Senator Michaelia Cash introduced the bill last month to overturn Canberra’s drug laws which decriminalise small amounts of certain illicit drugs, including ice, heroin and ecstasy.

The laws have been scrutinised by both the federal and territory Liberal parties, as well as ACT Police.

The legislation will come into effect later this month.
