An ACT Government backbencher will lead the call to have gambling advertising banned on Australian Television.
Marisa Paterson’s “Bets Off, Game On” campaign coincides with Federal Parliament announcing an inquiry into online gambling and its impacts.
Ms Paterson says it’s the perfect time to be the voice of the people who don’t want to see gambling advertising on their screens.
“Sport should not be synonymous with gambling. Kids in Australia should not grow up knowing the bettering companies as much as they know the teams in their favourite sport,” Dr Paterson said.
“These international betting companies contribute nothing to our community, yet they extract billions of dollars a year and cause countless harm to Australian families.”
