The airline has launched a flight schedule that’s twice a week, in a bid to avoid connections for passengers who might normally have to first travel to Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne.

And it’s a psychological boost for Canberra airport, that’s been seeking more direct international flights out of the A.C.T.

The schedule will eventually increase to three flights a week from October.

The Fijian link also offers the potential for Canberra passengers to fly across to North America with connections from Fiji to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu and Vancouver.
