Canberra’s had a big clean up operation after a sudden storm hit the region yesterday afternoon.

Tuggeranong, Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Civic and Fyschwick were hardest hit – with strong winds, hail and lightning.

Thousands lost power during the height of yesterday’s thunderstorm.

A tree in Curtin fell down on powerlines, which affected 41 homes, but it was the thunderstorm in the early afternoon that caused dramas for thousands of homes.

It prompted a warning from energy provider Evoenergy to remind Canberrans to stay away from fallen and low hanging powerlines, and avoid contact with items that could become charged with electricity.
