Wednesday, January 28, saw extreme heat radiate over the majority of Canberra, reaching a sweltering 42.6 degrees, as picked up at the Canberra Airport weather station.

It falls just two degrees shy of the all-time record of 44 degrees, which was set in January 2020.

Down south in the Tuggeranong area, the temperature was recorded at being 43.5 degrees, marking a new record for the site.

A heatwave warning remains in place until Saturday, January 31.
