Canberrans urged to roll up their sleeves on World Blood Donor day

Today is World Blood Donor day, with more Canberrans being urged to roll up their sleeves and donate.

Only 3 percent of eligible Australians donate blood regularly.

Sally Gavin from Lifeblood says we need to get that number up.

“We do, we do but when you look at Canberra we have 23,000 blood donors,” said Ms Gavin.

“So thank you to those Canberrans who already make a difference to our patients.

“The need for blood doesn’t stop – we constantly need blood and plasma donations.

“We are after 33,000 donations every week, and 140,000 people in the ACT could potentially need blood in their lifetime.”
