Police have begun a crackdown on attempts to smuggle drugs into the Alexander Maconochie Centre.

The crackdown follows recent incidents,  in which attempts have been made to bring illicit substances into the Centre.

THREE known attempts have occurred in the past two months.

NOW – a fulltime focus has been mounted to prevent people bringing in contraband

Those caught face arrest and charges.

Punishment also comes with  a $1,000 fine and a year in jail.
