Homelessness Gets Worse

The Canberra Goulburn chapter of St Vincent De Paul is calling for an increase in funding to counter the A.C.T.’s high rents and Cost Of Living crisis.

Frontline homelessness services in the A.C.T. say they’re buckling under the demand of locals needing assistance, considering the current economic climate.

It’s prompted ST VINNIES to ask the Territory Government to double its funding for services, amid claims, they’re seeing people, who’ve never previously asked for help.

The charity’s figure for December shows a 40 percent increase in the number of calls for assistance.

And a new productivity report shows the current average rate of homelessness in the ACT is 39 people per 10,000, – with no improvement from the 2016 figure.
