It’s been revealed that the ACT Government has spent the past seven years discussing digital licences with their New South Wales counterparts.

The Canberra Liberals made the revelation, with documents obtained under Freedom of Information showing Access Canberra first met with Service New South Wales in July 2019.

It was also revealed that the state government offered to partner with the ACT at a minimum cost.

Shadow Minister for Government Services Peter Cain says the government needs to act on this issue.

“NSW had already built the technology for a digital driver’s licence and was offering to share it at minimum cost,” Mr Cain said.

“Instead of delivering, the ACT Labor Government spent seven years holding meetings and writing business cases.”

“People in Queanbeyan, just over the border, have had a digital driver’s licence for years. Canberrans don’t need more plans about plans. We need competence and a government that can deliver better services.”
