The Australian Federal Police Association says it will be seeking assurances from the ACT Government, after the City Police Station was evacuated.

Equipment failure is to blame for the evacuation on New Years Day, according to the Emergency Services Agency, with a gas alarm incorrectly going off.

The Association says repeated evacuations at the precinct are disrupting police work and raise serious safety questions.

The watch house was closed for a night in November, after sewage contaminated the area.

There were no leaks reported in the police station.
