A 19-year-old Gilmore man has had his vehicle seized and licence suspended after been caught driving at nearly 200 km/h in Fyshwick on New Years Day.
Just after midnight, officers spotted a silver Honda sedan travelling on the Monaro Highway towards Fyshwick at excessive speed.
Police radar detected the sedan to be travelling at 198km/h in a 90km/h zone.
Screening tests revealed the 19-year-old P-plater driver, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
When asked about his extreme speed, the man told officers he was just “being silly”.
His younger brother was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The sedan was seized and the man was issued with an immediate suspension notice, suspending his ACT driver’s licence for 180 days.
Police say further action will be taken.
