ACT Policing is reminding Canberrans to be on their best behaviour ahead of tonight’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Thousands of people are expected at Lake Burley Griffin and police will be patrolling the precinct to ensure community safety.

Police are also urging people to plan their transportation, as several roads in the area will be closed.

Detective acting Superintendent Brett Coutts said that while police want everyone to have a good time, there will be a zero-tolerance approach to alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behaviour.

Locals are being reminded that drones are not permitted to be flown around the lake.
