Canberra hospitals are trialling a new system for the registration of newborns in services like Medicare.
The trial is already underway and involves MyGov.
It’s aimed at reducing the need to enter the same birth details, multiple times for a variety of services.
Once a birth is registered, parents will no longer need to confirm the birth of their child for Centrelink family assistance claims.
In an Australian first, they can use the MyGov website – as part of a joint trial by the Commonwealth and A.C.T. Government.
Government Services Minister Bill Shorten said the trial was innovative and a “huge step” in the right direction.
