ACT Police is seeking witnesses after an attempted armed robbery in Charnwood last night.

About 9.10pm, two men exited a stolen white Land Rover Discovery in Charnwood.

They approached a 19 year old man in his car nearby and allegedly attempted to steal his phone and car.

During the incident, one man assaulted the teenager with a knife and the other struck him on the head with a firearm. A nearby resident called police and the two men fled on foot.

The Land Rover abandoned at the scene had been reported stolen earlier that day from Melba.

Anyone with information or who has dash-cam footage of the Land Rover being driven in Canberra yesterday is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
