Aviation Ombudsman Closer

Canberrans who’ve been hit hard by inflated airline prices and frequent flight cancellations could soon be getting help from an aviation Ombudsman.

Travel Industry Association chief Dean Long says Qantas and Virgin have now agreed to conditionally back the move.

The independent body would deal with passenger complaints – an example stemming from the cancelled flights controversy, involving Qantas and Jetstar – to and from Canberra airport.

The Ombudsman could also deal with potential refunds.

It hoped, the new system could be up and running by the end of the year.
