Bushfire Study Wants Your Help

A new study is underway – looking to improve how emergency information is communicated by using maps..

Run by RMIT and Natural Hazards Research Australia – it’s currently looking to survey residents in the ACT – who’ve been in areas threatened by a bushfire in the last 4 years.

researcher Erica Kuligowski says the new predictive maps were used for the first time in the 2019-20 bushfires.

“We’re very interested in learning about the experiences (of those impacted) so that we can improve the way that maps are designed and communicated in future fires”  she said.

Online interviews will begin on Monday, with in-person ones being conducted later this month.
