Cabinet Documents Reveal Infill Push

Newly released cabinet documents have revealed ACT government ministers tried to push back the former planning minister’s infill plan.

More than 70 locations across Canberra were identified for redevelopment in early 2011, which were put forward by then planning minister Andrew Barr.

The cabinet’s ministerial advisory committee rejected the proposal over likely community backlash and recommended a smaller list of sites.

The decade-old submission advocated for more urban infill.

The now chief minister has since signalled intentions to deliver more secondary houses to increase urban density.

Recently, the government put out its draft district strategies for public consultation.
