Canberra cockatoo study

If you’ve got a particular type of cockatoo feathers then officials want to hear from you.
The “Gang Gang” cockatoo has been on the decline for the past couple of decades.
Lately,  it’s become an iconic part of Canberra… but it’s thought, only 150 remain in the Territory.
Now,  a strategy’s been developed as part of a monitoring program – and it’s got funding from the Federal Government.
Canberrans are being asked to mail-in any such feathers,  as part of research to save the Gang Gang… classed as “an endangered species”.
It’s thought,  the bushfires of 2019 – 2020 wiped out many of their habitats.
