Protestors have gathered out the front of Parliament House ahead of a debate on climate action.

A four-metre-tall smoke breathing robot koala called Blinky was part of the protest, with Extinction Rebellion hopeful that a climate emergency will be declared.

Labor will need the support of the Greens to pass its emissions-reduction target, with future investment in coal and gas projects expected to be a sticking point.
