Concerns About Airport Dragon

Share:

Environmentalists say a proposed new road at Canberra Airport would likely kill off the tiny Grassland Earless Dragon.

It’s really small – about 150mm long… and weighs under 9 grams.

Earlier this year, it was listed as “Critically Endangered” under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act

But concerns have been raised about its declining population, in the wake of a revised plan for an airport road – accessing Majura Road in Palligo – with the suggestion, it would cut in two the dragon’s habitat.

Friends of Grasslands, Jamie Pittock, wants the Environment Minister to step in and halt the work.
