CTE discovered in brain of former Canberra Footballer

Heather Anderson took her own life in November, and with the consent of her family her brain was donated to the Australian Sports Brain Bank, to better understand her death.

The findings revealed the first time a female athlete had been diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a form of dementia linked to repeated head trauma.

It’s a timely finding, as a Senate Inquiry is investigating concussions and repeated head trauma in sport, that report is due next month.
