Government signs MOU with Sports Commission

The hopes of a City Stadium are all but dead in the water, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ACT Government and Australian Sports Commission.

An agreement was signed yesterday with the Sports Commission about how to go forward with the AIS Campus, and there will now be 18 months to work out how to provide either a revitalised or new stadium on site.

The ACT Government will fight to keep the AIS in Canberra ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, and is backing in a revitalised precinct as part of it’s major plans to achieve it.

The exploration of what to do in Bruce comes off the back of the government investigating a Civic Stadium, but deciding the proposal was unworkable due to site constraints.
