A 35-year-old man from Palmerston has been charged with assaulting police after allegedly attacking an officer in Gungahlin yesterday.

The man scuffled with another person before allegedly punching the officer.

Despite the arrest, police say he continued to be aggressive, kicking another officer.

He will face the ACT Magistrates court today on various charges, including assault and indecency.

Chief Police Officer Neil Gaughan condemned the violence and called for respect towards first responders.
