The ACT government will introduce laws to toughen penalties for dangerous driving and street racing.

Under the new laws, drivers who are caught street racing could face a prison term.

If a motorist is caught speeding by more than 45 km/h then it can result in an on-the-spot licence suspension.

The government is considering to develop a scheme where health practitioners inform the government if they believe a patient is unfit to drive.
