A Labor backbencher is expected to move a motion in the ACT Legislative Assembly today for the “Uluru Statement of the heart” to be recognised.
The member for Murrumbidgee wants is calling on the ACT Legislative Assembly to endorse the statement.
As part of her motion, Dr Marissa Paterson is also seeking support for a First Nation’s “Voice to Parliament” referendum campaign.
The Labor backbencher argues without Indigenous communities having a central role in political discussions, historical injustices are likely to be repeated.
