Projectile on plane causes emergency

Virgin Airways has praised the efforts of flight crew – saying standard operating procedures were followed during yesterday’s emergency at Canberra Airport.

Virgin flight 6-3-3 – A small propeller drivern Saab aircraft operated by Fyshwick based Link Airways – took off yesterday morning, but as it lifted into the air, debris ripped through the cabinet of the aircraft.

A strap that was not removed from the propellar prior to take off smashed through the front section of the cabin.

The aircraft returned to Canberra airport 4 minutes later.

One person was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Air Safety officials are now investigating the incident.
