Two Charged over Burglary and Assault

A 48-year-old Oaks Estate man and a 40-year-old Oaks Estate woman were arrested yesterday (Monday, 20 March 2023) after an alleged burglary and assault last weekend.

Police will allege that on Saturday (18 March 2023) the pair assaulted a woman with a hammer in her Oaks Estate residence and then stole cash from her.

The victim required hospital treatment, including surgery, for her injuries.

The man, who is currently subject to a suspended sentence and good behaviour obligations, will face charges including aggravated burglary with intent to cause harm, possessing an offensive weapon, attempting to choke a person and render them insensible, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm, damaging property and choking another person.

The woman, who is subject to good behavior obligations, will face charges of aggravated burglary with intent to commit theft, committing an act of indecency without consent and minor theft.

Both are scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 21 March 2023).
