A 53 year old woman has been charged after she allegedly made 20 nuisance calls to police in three hours yesterday afternoon.

Despite being instructed by police communications staff to only call for a genuine emergency, she continued to call Triple Zero.

Around 9.45pm, police attended her home in O’Connor and she was arrested while she was on the phone to Triple Zero.

The woman will face court today.

The public is reminded that it is an offence under ACT and Commonwealth legislation to make a false report to police, to cause police or other emergency service resources to be wasted, or to make harassing phone calls to emergency services.

Inappropriate use of the Triple Zero number can potentially delay the response to those in genuine need, such as those who are in a life-threatening situation.
