A new report suggests more funding is needed to prevent people from going to prison… and stay out of the Justice system when released

The Justice Reform initiative paper wants a 20-million dollar fund to expand spending on existing programs, which it says will reduce imprisonment rates.

The group’s using examples from other jurisdictions, like Scandinavian countries to show it’s a smarter approach… and the same thing can be done here in the A.C.T.

It also says the A.C.T. has made a commendable step forward with its commitment to invest in communities, not prisons…. but some are under-resourced – especially for First Nations-led organisations.
