A man has escaped jail time after appearing in court charged over HIS part in a group break-in using an axe and angle grinder to steal nearly four dozen phones from a Westfield Belconnen business.

The A.C.T. Supreme court was told – in 2023 the group originally intended to steal electronics by prying open the glass door entry, but ran away after being disturbed by cleaners.

THEN, 3 weeks later, they returned and were successful – only to be caught on CCTV footage.

The products were recovered, but the shop was extensively damaged.

A 21 year old man has been sentenced to 18-months jail – the sentence was suspended on the condition, he enter into a two year good behaviour bond… and community service.
